My sister sent me a picture of a hamster a few weeks ago. He was facing the camera — eyes strong and determined — scampering his way down a small, narrow path between bright green grass and the concrete stone of a sidewalk. No one could stop him if they tried. The caption she sent along with this hamster read: “Me going after my dreams.”
For most of us, my sister included, that image perfectly represents the ideal: keep focused, keep determined, and keep moving forward. But, adorable as this image is, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for creativity or receptivity.
As I start to solidify what I want in life, my dreams/prayers/asks of the universe, I’ve been adding vibrations of “rest” and “flexibility” into them. What I’ve been seeing happen is openness; I’ve been creating space in my life for my dreams to land. As I do that, more and more answers and blessings seem to be finding their way to me.
Instead of seeing myself as a strong-willed, determined hamster, I see myself as me (human!) and my dreams as tiny, spastic kittens. Chasing doesn’t work for me anymore. Instead, as I create space in my life, little cushy boxes of comfort seem to open up. And my dreams start to curl up in them one at a time.
I encourage any of you focused-hamsters out there to consider adding a little more gentleness into your eyes. To find ways to create soft, cushiony openness for your dreams to come to you. It doesn’t have to be such hard work. Take care of yourself as you approach your dreams. Create a space that is loving and caring and clean for you. And eventually, your fluffy, cuddly blessings from the universe will start curling up in your lap.
Creating space for your dreams starts by creating space for yourself. If you struggle with doing that on your own time, try signing up for a healing with me. I'd love to support you in allowing your dreams to come into reality. ♥
